Research-grade pre-analytical specimen tools with research opportunities from early-access beta testing to more
Why Collaborate With Lumea?
Lumea’s technology has been validated where it counts in peer-reviewed publications, clinical deployments, and independent studies across surgical pathology and urology. Our pre-analytical tools have demonstrated a 35% reduction in core fragmentation, 60% higher grading accuracy, and a 28% increase in core length.
But we’re not done building. Depending on where your work intersects with ours, we offer three distinct collaboration models:
Validated platform: Use our FDA-registered, CE-marked tools as a research-grade foundation. Study them, benchmark them, or find novel applications we haven’t thought of yet.
Co-validation: Some of our late-stage products need real-world data to prove their value. If your study design aligns, we’ll provide the tools, support, and data infrastructure in exchange for honest outcomes.
Early access: Our earliest-stage pipeline is open to investigators willing to work in less defined territory. High creative freedom, genuine influence on product direction.
If pre-analytical quality matters to your work, there’s a path here.
Tools for Research
6-Lane BxBoard®
FDA REGISTERED & CE MARKED
Use case: 16-18g core needle biopsies
Formalin-sparing, flat-plane transport platform utilizing a specialized hydrophilic formalin-soaked sponge. Replaces loose-floating formalin jars, preserving anatomical orientation.
6-Lane BxChip®
FDA REGISTERED & CE MARKED
Use case: 16-18g core needle biopsies
A patented, sectionable tissue array that consolidates up to six cores into a single high-yield block. Formulated to shrink evenly during processing, acting as an optical anchor for automated slide scanners to minimize refocusing lag.
BxCamera®
Use case: any tissue that fits in a cassette
A fixed-stage imaging system to ensure that lighting, zoom factor, and white balance remained constant across all time-points, allowing for objective pixel-intensity analysis. It will provide small tissue quantity counts and 2-D greatest size measurements. Chain of custody or quality assurance tool.
Focal Ring®
Use case: small tissue biopsies and cytology samples
Functions as a physical focus-assist fiducial, ensuring that low-density cytology specimens are digitized with the same Z-stack precision as high-density tissue cores.
4-Lane BxBoard®
IN R&D TESTING
Use case: 11-14g core needle biopsies
Formalin-sparing, flat-plane transport platform utilizing a specialized hydrophilic formalin-soaked sponge. Replaces loose-floating formalin jars, preserving anatomical orientation.
4-Lane BxChip®
IN R&D TESTING
Use case: 11-14g core needle biopsies
Adapted sectionable polymer optimized for 11–14 Gauge core biopsies (targeted at advanced breast and soft tissue structural research). Engineered to maintain strict linear morphology for macro-dissection accuracy.
Multi-Well BxChip® Matrices
IN R&D TESTING
Use case: multiplexing fragmented biopsies
High-density micro-well arrays designed to accept micro-fragments (up to 4mm–7mm). Allows massive sample multiplexing into a single physical paraffin block, reducing downstream spatial sequencing costs.
Sterile BxChip®
IN R&D TESTING
Use case: 16-18g core needle biopsies
A sterile, patented, sectionable tissue array that consolidates up to six cores into a single high-yield block. Formulated to shrink evenly during processing, acting as an optical anchor for automated slide scanners to minimize refocusing lag.
Sterile BxBoard®
IN FIELD TESTING
Use case: 16-18g core needle biopsies, 11-14g core biopsies
A specialized adaptation of the BxBoard platform. Prevents the nucleic acid cross-linking that degrades library preparation for Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS). Best for larger single site biopsy collection.
CytoPod®
IN FIELD TESTING
Use case: liquid biopsies
A high-fidelity cell-capture and processing chamber designed to standardize the transition from fluid suspension to paraffin-embedded cell block. It employs a vacuum-assisted or gravity-fed filtration path that captures diagnostic cells on a single horizontal plane. This creates a “monolayer-like” density within a 3D structural block.
CytoPod ® Consumables
IN FIELD TESTING
The internal membrane of the CytoPod is a precision-engineered substrate designed for selective retention. The pore size is optimized to allow for the passage of debris and supernatant while retaining diagnostic cellular clusters and individual cells. The membrane itself ensures that when the block is sectioned, the cells are suspended in the paraffin matrix.
BxCollect®
RESEARCH USE ONLY
Use case: small biopsy specimens
A biopsy transport container that replaces standard formalin-filled jars. Intended for specimens with a surface area of 5mm² or less and no more than 3mm thick.
Comparative Tissue-Mimetic Co-Embedding Matrix
R&D PIPELINE
Use case: multiplexing
A specialized embedding matrix array accommodating mixed tissues. Standardizes microtomy for veterinary reference labs processing cross-species samples on tight turnaround times.
